Apple working on multiple foldable iPhone prototypes, claims leaker

Apple is reportedly working on multiple foldable iPhone prototypes according to reliable leaker @dylandkt who reports the company is “intent on carefully observing the market and improving upon the mistakes of their competitors,” suggesting a folding iPhone is likely years away.
Foldable smartphone displays don’t have the best reputation, with Samsung suffering high-profile issues with the $2000 Galaxy Fold which many customers found broke or became damaged within days of owning the device due to issues with the protective layer over the folding display.
“There are also concerns as to whether foldable smartphones will continue to have a place in the market or will fall into obsolescence,” said @dylandkt on Thursday. “While other manufactures are iterating on products that are seemingly in beta, Apple is keen on making sure that the design is not a regression from the current form factor of the iPhone. They are interested in playing the long game to see how the technology progresses.”

Apple has long been rumored to be considering launching a new foldable iPhone though, it seems plans are still in the early stages and could be subject to cancellation. Respected analysts Ming-Chi Kuo reported last year that he doesn’t expect a folding iPhone to launch until at least 2023 or 2024 at the earliest.
