Apple announces third annual Apple Music Award winners

Apple has announced the winners of its third annual Apple Music Awards, naming The Weeknd as Apple’s Global Artist of the Year, Olivia Rodrigo as Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year, and H.E.R. as Songwriter of the Year.

This year, Apple has introduced a new category of awards for Regional Artist of the Year, recognizing artists from five countries and regions: Africa, France, Germany, Japan, and Russia.

The winners of the new Regional Artist of the Year awards go to Wizkid (Africa), Aya Nakamura (France), RIN (Germany), OFFICIAL HIGE DANDISM (Japan), and Scriptonite (Russia).

Apple started the Apple Music Awards in 2019, with winning artists receiving an award that has a custom silicon wafer suspended between a polished sheet of glass and a machined aluminum body.
