Apple has reportedly signed a lease to expand the amount of office space it occupies inside the financial district of London, with The Times reporting that the company has agreed to take an extra three floors at 22 Bishopsgate, one of the newest skyscrapers in the City of London.
The Apple Post reported in 2019 how Apple had signed to take 100,000 square feet of office space at the Bishopsgate building, which is understood to be home to part of the iPhone maker’s Apple Pay team. Citing people familiar with the deal, The Times reports that the expansion will see Apple take on a further 75,000 square feet in the skyscrapers, with it not yet clear what teams will occupy the additional space.
The expansion comes ahead of Apple moving into its new 6-floor UK campus at Battersea Power Station in London. The campus, which Apple announced plans for in late 2016, will be located in the iconic former power station on the south bank of the River Thames, marking one of the biggest single office deals signed in London outside the City and Docklands area, bringing together all eight of Apple’s existing offices around London to create one central hub.
The new report claims the expansion in the Bishopsgate building will not impact Apple’s plans in Battersea, which The Apple Post learned was due to be handed over to Apple in summer to be fitted out ahead of an opening next year, which has been delayed due to COVID-19 and the impact it has had on the building’s restoration.
