iCloud Private Relay service temporarily unavailable due to technical problem, says Apple

Apple is experiencing issues with its iCloud Private Relay service, with a number of users who have the feature enabled on their device receiving notifications informing them that the service is temporarily unavailable due to technical problems.

Private Relay is a feature that encrypts all information your device leaves when browsing the web in Safari. The first relay is sent through a server owned by Apple and the second is through a third-party operator. The service was introduced at WWDC 2021 and is one of the many features of iCloud+.

The outage follows after iCloud Private Relay went offline at the beginning of the month, with users again being informed that the service was temporarily unavailable while a technical problem was fixed.

Users who open the iCloud settings on their device are shown that Private Relay is unavailable, with a message saying the service will reactivate automatically when the problem is resolved.

Private Relay is temporarily unavailable due to a technical problem. It will resume working automatically when the problem is resolved.

Apple suggests users monitor the System Status webpage on Apple.com for updates on the outage however, as of the time of writing, the webpage is yet to update to show the outage, despite the notifications and messages shown on devices.
