Apple announces expansion of Apple News local news coverage

Apple has announced the expansion of local news coverage in the Apple News app, now offering coverage of topics in three additional cities in the US: Charlotte, Miami, and Washington, D.C.

Local news coverage first came to Apple News in July last year, featuring a variety of content from local publishers in the Bay Area, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco, including a major newspaper in each city and region. The content focuses on coverage of topics most important to local communities, such as sports, dining and restaurants, weather, news and politics, and more.

Announced in a post to the Apple Newsroom on Tuesday, Apple says the new expansion will give readers the latest news from publishers including Axios Charlotte, the Charlotte Observer, Eater Miami, the Miami Herald, DCist, Washingtonian, the Washington Post, and more.

Apple says it plans to expand the local news feature to additional cities and regions over time, with the Apple News service still limited to users in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.
