Apple’s former chief design officer Jony Ive was involved in the redesign of the recently released M1 iMac, despite leaving the company in 2019, according to Wired.
In its iMac review, Wired claim Apple directly confirmed that Ive had worked in some capacity on the redesigned machine that debuted in April, which marked one of the most significant design changes to the desktop since 2012, featuring an all-new slimline display, seven-colored finishes, M1 Apple silicon, Touch ID Magic Keyboard, and more.
The review reads: “Jony Ive was involved in the design of this new iMac, despite having left Apple back in 2019. Hardware design is a long process, so perhaps it’s not surprising that Ive’s fingerprints are all over this new desktop. But, interestingly, Apple would not confirm or deny if he worked on the 2021 iMac after he left the company – just that he had worked on it.”
When Ive announced his departure from Apple to form his design practice, LoveFrom, Apple said it would be one of the practice’s primary clients. It’s unknown what level of input Ive had on the new machine, and if his involvement continued after he left the company.
