Apple pushing App Store updates to older apps to use the latest signing certificate

Apple themselves are releasing updates on the App Store to third-party apps that haven’t been updated in several years as it did last summer, updating old applications to use the latest Apple signing certificate.

Users who have old apps installed that haven’t been updated frequently are once again noticing updates appearing with “This app has been updated by Apple to use the latest Apple signing certificate.” appearing in the App Store’s patch notes.

Apple did the same thing last July when users started noticing a flurry of updates appearing in the App Store for apps dating back to 2014 showing in the Updates queue.

App Store classic Stair Dismount – first launched 9 years ago – was one of the apps that received the signing certificate update on Thursday, appearing in the Updates queue for the first time in 3 years.
