Mark Gurman dismisses March 16 Apple event rumors

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has dismissed earlier rumors that suggested Apple would hold an event on Tuesday, March 16th to announce AirTags, a new iPad Pro and the expansion of Apple Card.

Referring to a report from Korea’s Economic Daily News on Thursday, which cited claims by Twitter-based leakers who pointed to Apple hosting a pre-recorded event from the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park to unveil the company’s first raft of new products, Gurman tweeted on Friday that “there won’t end up being one,” later confirming that AirTags aren’t planned to launch on March 16th.

The Economic Daily News wasn’t the only source to suggest new hardware could be announced on the 16th. Last year, leaker Jon Prosser claimed Apple planned to host an event that day for new products, though Prosser’s report at the time claimed AirPods Max would be announced on the 16th, which of course we now know isn’t correct, as the headphones were announced in late December.

Gurman doesn’t rule out the possibility of an Apple event in March, but the reliable reporter seems set on that March 16th won’t be the day of the event if we do end up seeing one.
