With iOS 14, Apple has made several huge updates to the iPhone, including the biggest refresh ever to the Home Screen, such as redesigned widgets, an App Library that automatically organizes all of a user’s apps into one simple view, several enhancements to Messages, new App Clips, and more.
The update also includes some less noticeable, but equally as important system improvements focused on privacy.
In iOS 14, users will notice new small green and orange dots appearing in the status bar, in the right-hand corner of their iPhone when using Siri, Dictation, or apps such as Snapchat, FaceTime, TikTok, and the Camera. The dots are an important privacy indicator that every iPhone user should know about.
What are the green and orange dots in the corner of my iPhone’s screen?
iOS 14 now shows recording indicators that appear in the top corner of the iPhone’s screen whenever an app is using your microphone or camera. And in Control Centre, you can see if an app has used them recently.
A green dot indicates that your camera is in use and an orange dot indicates your microphone is in use.
You will likely see them during a FaceTime call, using the Snapchat camera, sending an audio message in Messages, or shooting a TikTok.
