Like Apple, Samsung won’t include a power adapter with future smartphones, claims report

Apple is widely rumored not to be including either wired headphones or a power adapter in the box of this year’s new iPhone 12, instead offering the accessories as paid extras. Now, a report from Korea claims rivals Samsung will follow suit starting in 2021.

The report from ETnews (via The Verge) claims as of next year, Samsung won’t include a power adapter in the box of its new smartphones, saying chargers “have become widespread” and by putting a stop to bundling them in the box, it will help reduce the production cost of future models.

ETnews says Samsung is assessing concerns about how customers will perceive the move, speculating that if Samsung removes power adapters without other “rewards of benefits,” customers could complain and it could lead to fewer smartphone purchases.
