Apple Maps Transit directions expand across the EU

Apple has expanded the rollout of Apple Maps Transit directions to users across the EU, now showing train, bus, and tram directions within the Maps app.

The update follows shortly after Apple announced it had completed the launch of its redesigned Maps app in the United States, offering users more accurate navigation and comprehensive views of roads, buildings, parks, airports, malls and more.

Apple launched Apple Maps Transit directions in the United States wayback in 2015 and has slowly been adding support for new countries and regions since. Now, the Maps app in France, Spain, and Germany is showing local bus, train and metro travel data when planning or researching journey.

Upon completion of the US rollout of the redesigned Apple Maps experience, Apple said it is “deeply invested” in creating the “best and most private” maps app in the world.

Within a statement, Eddy Cue said:

We set out to create the best and most private maps app on the planet that is reflective of how people explore the world today. It is an effort we are deeply invested in and required that we rebuild the map from the ground up to reimagine how Maps enhances people’s lives — from navigating to work or school or planning an important vacation — all with privacy at its core. The completion of the new map in the United States and delivering new features like Look Around and Collections are important steps in bringing that vision to life. We look forward to bringing this new map to the rest of the world starting with Europe later this year.
