Apple’s next iPhone will look similar to iPhone 4, according to report

Next year’s iPhone will look similar to the iPhone 4, according to respected industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who predicts Apple will release new iPhone models in 2020 that feature a metal frame structure, similar to that released with 2011’s iPhone 4.

Shared by MacRumors, Kuo claims the design of the new devices will change “significantly”, suggesting the iPhone 4-like hardware will include “a more complex segmentation design, new trenching and injection molding procedures, and sapphire or glass cover assembly to protect the trench injection molding structure.”

Apple’s iconic iPhone 4 was the first smartphone to feature an industrial-like design with an exposed squared-edged aluminum frame between two pieces of glass.

We predict that the new 2H20 iPhone design will change significantly […] The metal frame and the front and rear 2/2.5D glass are still used, but the metal frame surface will be changed to a similar design to the iPhone 4, replacing the current surface design.

Kuo goes on to say that the redesign to next year’s iPhone models will be one of the main selling points combined with 5G support.
