In a tweet, Donald Trump has publicly shot down Apple’s request for tariff exemptions on Mac Pro parts made in China.
Apple had reportedly turned to the Trump administration last week to seek exemption on tariffs being imposed on parts imported from China for its new costly Mac Pro model, and Trump has made it clear the US isn’t willing to bend the rules for the Cupertino-based tech giant, saying “Apple will not be given Tariff wavers, or relief, for Mac Pro parts that are made in China. Make them in the USA, no Tariffs!”
Apple unveiled the Mac Pro – the most powerful Mac ever made – at WWDC in June. Unlike the previous generation Mac Pro, Apple is reportedly moving assembly of the new Mac hardware out of the United States and into China, a decision believed to have been made to help the company maximise profits on the $5,999 machine.

Apple has argued that it can’t find US suppliers for the propriety components the new Mac Pro requires.
We’ll have to wait to see if Apple will update its pricing for the Mac Pro in light of the tariffs, or if the company will take the hit and absorb the cost. An official release date for the Mac Pro hasn’t been shared, although Apple hinted at a September release date in late June.
