Apple Pay now available in 13 new European countries, including Portugal, Cyprus, and Malta

Apple is enabling support for Apple Pay in 13 new European countries today, bringing the mobile payment system to millions of users across Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Portugal, Romania, and Slovenia.

Social media quickly filled with screenshots this morning posted by Apple users who noticed the Wallet on their devices are now allowing for card issued by Boon, Edenred, J&T Banka, Monese, N26, Revolut, Slovenska sporitelna, Tatra banka, and mBank to be added to the mobile wallet for in-store and online Apple Pay payments.

The expansion comes amid Apple’s promise to have Apple Pay supported in 40 countries by the end of 2019.

In a statement shared with The Apple Post, Arthur Johanet, Product Owner for Card Payments at mobile bank Revolut said the firm was “delighted” to bring Apple Pay support to its users.

Our customers across Europe have been requesting Apple Pay for a long time, so we are delighted to continue our rollout with 12 additional markets. This is a very positive step forward in enabling even more of our customers to use their money in the way that they want to.

In addition to in-store contactless payments, Apple Pay support is also built into many popular apps (which Apple is now highlighting in the App Store), and on the web.
