watchOS 6 will allow users to delete default apps on Apple Watch

watchOS 6 will allow users to delete default apps such as Alarm, Timer, Walkie-Talkie, ECG, and Breathe, on Apple Watch by simply pressing and holding the app icons to invoke “wiggle mode” to show an “X” button that appears above an app icon, similar to how apps can be deleted on iOS.

The news comes via TechCrunch who say despite the absence of the feature in Apple’s two developer beta releases of watchOS 6, the ability to delete stock apps on Apple Watch will be ready for users in September when the software officially ships.

Apple already allows for some Apple Watch apps to be removed, like Calendar, Stocks, and Weather, by deleting the built-in app from the iPhone paired to the Apple Watch, though watch wearers can’t currently delete watchOS apps that lack an iOS counterpart like Timer and Radio.

The report notes not all of Apple’s default apps will be able to be deleted, with apps such as Heart Rate and Messages remaining as unremovable.
