Sketchy rumor claims Apple will launch AirPower, AirPods 2 and new iPads on March 29

Apple is supposedly planning to host an event in the second half of March where the company will unveil its next-generation AirPods 2, a new affordable iPad, the so-called “iPad mini 5”, and announce availability for AirPower, according to a report from Greek site iphonehellas.gr.

The site claims to know this after “exclusive information” was received from “a reliable source through Apple’s production chain in China.” iphonehellas.gr suggests following the event, expected sometime between March 11 and March 20 according to a separate post on SlashleaksApple will make the new products available for pre-order on Friday, 29 March.

The mid-to-late March event is expected to see Apple introduce new AirPods with Hey Siri support, as seen within recent iOS 12.2 beta software. The 2nd-generation AirPods will most likely be accompanied by a new wireless charging case compatible with AirPower, Apple’s long awaited wireless charging mat. – AirPower is expected to be priced at $149.00, with the year-long delay believed to be due to issues with prototypes overheating during testing.

Apple’s star of the show will most likely be a successor to the 2018 9.7-inch iPad, featuring a slightly larger display area and upgraded internals, although this model isn’t believed to feature Face ID. A new iPad mini, dubbed the iPad mini 5 is also expected to be released, although reports and component leaks suggest this will only be a minor internal upgrade.

Apple typically sends invites to its events 7-14 days ahead of time, so if the rumors are to be believed we can expect official confirmation of an event in the first or second week of March.
