Microsoft launches Office suite of apps on the Mac App Store

Microsoft has launched its suite of Office apps to the Mac App Store after first announcing it would bring Office 365 to the Mac last June – boasting how for the first time users would be able to download and install the whole suite from the Store with a single click.

A total of six apps — including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint — have been added to the Mac App Store today, each available individually or as one app bundle.

The suite has been optimised to bring Mac-specific features such as Dark Mode and Continuity Camera, as well as use of the MacBook Pro Touch Bar, something Jared Spataro, corporate vice president at Microsoft, says has been done closely with Apple to provide Mac users with “the very best productivity experience — one that offers everything they know and love about Office through an experience uniquely designed for the Mac”.

Within a press release published to the Apple Newsroom today, Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said the company was “excited to welcome Microsoft Office 365 to the all new Mac App Store in macOS Mojave.”

We are excited to welcome Microsoft Office 365 to the all new Mac App Store in macOS Mojave. – Apple and Microsoft have worked together to bring great Office productivity to Mac users from the very beginning. Now, with Office 365 on the Mac App Store, it’s easier than ever to get the latest and best version of Office 365 for Mac, iPad and iPhone.

Microsoft Office apps from the Mac App Store will require an active Office 365 subscription, which can be paid for with an in-app purchase within any of the applications to unlock full functionality, similar to the Microsoft Office apps on iOS.
