AirPower mentioned in iPhone XS user guide, suggesting release still planned

Just when we thought all hope was lost, Apple’s user guides for the newly released iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max make references to AirPower, giving us hope that Apple is continuing to develop the long-awaited charging mat which had widely been assumed to have been scrapped following reports of overheating and development issues.

The surprise discovery was made by Developer Gavin Stevens who shared an image of the guide on Twitter.

The user guide clearly mentions AirPower, instructing users who wish to take advantage of the iPhone XS’ wireless charging capabilities to place their iPhone with its screen facing up on AirPower or a Qi-certified wireless charger.

Place iPhone with screen facing up on AirPower or a Qi-certified wireless charger. You can also use the Lightning connector to charge iPhone and connect accessories.

Its unclear why AirPower is referenced within the user guides given the fact Apple hasn’t uttered a word about the accessory since it was announced last year. It’s possible the guides were printed before Apple made the decision to further delay the charging mat, or maybe Apple is still hopeful it can ship the product as it originally intended.
