Apple reportedly planning paid subscription news service

Apple is reportedly planning to launch a paid subscription news service, dubbed ‘Apple News Premium’, within the next year, according to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg News.

The article claims Apple will deeply integrate subscription-based news service, Texture into Apple News once the acquisition of the company is complete, offering ‘Apple News Premium’ customers access to paid magazines, including Vogue, Men’s Health, GQ, People & Entertainment Weekly that are currently available on Texture for $9.99 per-month.

Bloomberg’s report claims Apple has started moving Texture employees across to Apple, laying off approximately 20 staff members in the process.

At the time that the acquisition was announced at the SXSW media festival in Austin, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, Eddy Cue said…

We’re excited Texture will join Apple, along with an impressive catalog of magazines from many of the world’s leading publishers. – We are committed to quality journalism from trusted sources and allowing magazines to keep producing beautifully designed and engaging stories for users.
