Apple introduces new 9.7-inch iPad with Apple Pencil support

Apple has revealed a new 9.7-inch iPad with Apple Pencil support at their educational themed ‘Let’s take a field trip’ event, featuring a 10 hour battery life, Touch ID, an A10 Fusion chip and a rear-facing 8MP camera.

Today is the first time that Apple Pencil has been designed to work with any-other product apart from the iPad Pro. – Apple has announced new versions of Pages, Numbers, and Keynote will support Apple Pencil too.

Apple is using the same A10 Fusion chip found within the iPhone 7, an upgrade from the A9 chips found within their previous generation entry-level iPad. – During the announcement of the tablet, Apple promoted how the A10 Fusion chip can help bring AR experiences to the classroom.

iPad is our vision for the future of computing and hundreds of millions of people around the world use it every day at work, in school and for play. – This new 9.7-inch iPad takes everything people love about our most popular iPad and makes it even better for inspiring creativity and learning,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing.

The new 9.7-inch iPad with Apple Pencil support comes in silver, space gray and a new gold finish, priced at $329 for consumers and $299 for schools.

The device will be available to order from Apple.com today, and will be available for in-store pick-up next week.
