AirPower again rumored for launch in March

Taiwanese website DigiTimes has claimed AirPower, Apple’s wireless charging mat, capable of charging up to three devices at once, will launch “by the end of March”, backing up claims from Macotakara and ourselves at The Apple Post.

The Apple Post was first to report that AirPower was expected to launch in March, with a tipster at American retailer Best Buy telling us that the wireless charging mat and new AirPods wireless charging case would arrive in stores towards the end of the month.

The DigiTimes report today claims Apple may ship a 29W USB-C power brick in the box of AirPower, noting that AirPower  will be capable of charging up to 3 devices at once, with a maximum output of 29W, enough to provide two iPhones with the current limit of 7.5W.

Apple today announced that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will be held between Monday June 4th and Friday June 8th at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California. While more and more clues are pointing to a March launch for AirPower, if those plans fall through Apple could release the accessory shortly after WWDC.

AirPower was first previewed alongside the unveiling of the iPhone X in September. Users will be able to charge up to three devices at once, including their Apple Watch Series 3, compatible Apple Watch charging case, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X on the wireless charging mat, with new products expected to gain wireless charging capabilities in the future. When users have multiple devices charging at the same time AirPower will ‘communicate’ between each device and intelligently decide on how much power each device requires.
