Reports from Taiwan’s Economic Daily News are claiming Apple is working on a new low-cost HomePod priced between $150-$200 for launch later this year to compete with the Amazon Echo and Google Home which are priced significantly cheeper than the current HomePod.
The news comes alongside claims that Apple will fully ditch the notch from their 2019 iPhone line-up and that an “affordable” MacBook Air priced between $799 to $899 could launch later this year.
Although the report doesn’t confirm the size of the new “low-cost” HomePod speaker, it’s possible the device will be smaller than the current version for more convenient placing around the home. Due to the recent public release of HomePod its unlikely Apple will unveil the new speaker anytime soon, so a possible launch alongside Apple’s updated iPhone line in September could be on the cards.
