Battery replacement times slip even later into the year

iPhone’s owners with a degrading battery will be unhappy to know that replacement times have slipped to 2.7 from 4.5 weeks. That’s down from 2.3 to 4.5 weeks earlier this year. Users could potentially be looking at over a month or more to have their battery replaced.

It was reported last month that iPhone 6 Plus battery replacements would be put on hold until March due to short supply. $29 battery replacements have been in place for iPhone 6 models and later since late December and they seem to be very popular. Tim Cook’s said in a statement that:

“We did it because we thought it was the right thing to do for our customers. I don’t know what effect it will have for our investors. It was not in our thought process of deciding to do what we’ve done.”

The process of obtaining a new battery isn’t just as simple as booking a service appointment. When you arrive, stores typically need to order the part from Apple and then let you know when the new battery arrives.

New power management features are already in the works for iOS 11.3 where users will have the ability to disable system throttling. iOS 11.3 will also implement new battery health features as well.
