Apple in short supply of iPhone 6 Plus batteries until March

After the controversy surrounding Apple slowing down older iPhone models because of older batteries, the company reduced battery replacement costs down to $29 instead of the regular $79. The program apparently seems to be so popular that the Cupertino company in now in short supply of iPhone 6 Plus batteries and won’t replace anymore until at least March.

Earlier this week Mac Rumors obtained an internal document distributed to Apple’s retail stores and Authorized Service Providers this week acknowledges that iPhone 6 Plus replacement batteries are in short supply and won’t be available until late March to early April in the US and other regions.

“Apple’s internal document quotes a shorter wait of approximately two weeks for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s Plus battery replacements and adds that batteries for all other models like iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone SE are expected to be available without extended delays in most countries.

A reliable source at an Apple Authorized Service Provider indicated that they recently received a package with dozens of replacement batteries, the majority of which were for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models.”

Right now Apple is replacing batteries for $29 regardless of Genuis Bar test results on select iPhone models. These the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus and iPhone SE. Battery swaps are limited to one per iPhone and the special program will end December 31, 2018 where the fee returns to $79.
