Earpiece speaker experiencing issues for some iPhone X units

As typical with any new release there’s going to issues (just take a look at the Google Pixel 2 XL) and the iPhone X is no exception. Late last week we saw green bars appearing on some of the OLED screens, now we’re seeing reports of “crackling” and “buzzing” sounds being emitted from the earpiece speaker.

As with the green bar issues, the earpiece noises do seem to be limited to a small amount of handsets. Users claim the so-called “crackling” or “buzzing” sounds from the device’s earpiece speaker tend to occur at high or max volumes. Although some users appear to be experiencing the issue with any kind of sounds such as including phone calls, music, and ringtones.

Since the introduction of the iPhone 7, the front facing earpiece also doubles as a stereo speaker, but issues of this kind have not been apparent on previous models. At the time of writing, Apple has not commented on the issue.

Again it’s unclear what is causing the issue, but in many of the cases users booked a Genius Bar appointment and had their iPhone X replaced (which seems like the best option at this point).
