Report claims Apple is beginning iPhone 8 mass production ahead of September launch

According to a new report from Digitimes, Apple has officially started iPhone 8 mass production with the device on track for a mid-September launch, claiming the iPhone 8 will be plagued with stock shortages while stock of the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus are expected to be relatively easy to pick up after launch.

The report comes shortly after Reuters claimed several of Apple’s asian suppliers have seen share rises on the basis of expected increases in sales of iPhone components, with manufacturing partners expected to be working non-stop throughout the year to meet demand for Apple’s 10th anniversary handset.

According to leaked dimensions coming from sources within Apple’s supply chain, it appears that the iPhone 8 will be smaller than the iPhone 7 Plus, yet larger than the iPhone 7, closely matching Samsung with the Galaxy S8. It’s believed this year’s iPhone release will see Apple introduce an all new device featuring a 5.8-inch display which will feature a “Function Area” that will be home to Apple’s virtual Home button that will support Touch ID through a fingerprint scanner embedded directly into the display.

All of the three new iPhone models, including two LCD and one OLED model, have entered volume production, said the sources, adding that there will not be shortages for the two LCD models, but the supply of the OLED version could fall short of demand due to high expectations for the model.
