iTunes receipts in the UK hint Apple is planning to enable 4K movies on the iTunes Store alongside an updated Apple TV

4K Movies iTunes Store

As discovered by MacRumours forum member Tomas Jackson, iTunes receipts in the UK hint Apple is planning to enable 4K movies on the iTunes Store, meaning Apple could soon update the Apple TV with 4K video support, a feature currently lacking from the current generation.

Only showing for purchases made in the United Kingdom, the 2016 adventure film, Passengers, shows Movie (4K, HDR) under the Type column, where the remaining films simply show Film (HD). – Something previously unseen on any iTunes movie purchase or rental.

Back in February it was reported Apple was internally testing a 4K capable 5th generation Apple TV internally codenamed “J105”.
