iPad mini rumored to be discontinued by Apple

Anonymous sources have claimed that Apple will begin to discontinue the iPad mini following “fierce cannibalism of Apple’s own products.” The 7.9-inch iPad was originally launched back in 2012 and has since been “sized out of its own category,” citing relatively poor sales numbers.

The report does not detail when we will being to see the demise of the mini tablet, but it’s possible Apple is making this move to make room for a newly rumored 10.5-inch iPad Pro that could launch at WWDC.

“We’re also told that the numbers are ‘very clear’ as far as sales are concerned, which is most likely the biggest reason the company plans to eliminate the littlest iPad,” reads the article.

Apple removed both the original iPad mini and iPad Air 2 following the introduction of the new 9.7-inch iPad model in March. Japanese blog, Mac Otakara, claimed late last year that Apple could release a fifth-generation iPad mini and then market it as the 7.9-inch “iPad mini Pro.”
