Wireless charging is reported to debut within the iPhone 8 in 2017, with wireless charging docks planned to be sold separately

According to the often reliable KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo; wireless charging is reported to debut within the iPhone 8 in 2017, with Apple planning on selling wireless charging docks as an additional accessory rather than something included in the box.

The report suggests that Apple’s next generation handset, dubbed the ‘iPhone 8’ rather than ‘iPhone 7s’ will feature an all glass design; allowing Apple to incorporate wireless charging at fast speeds with minimum disruption from frequency interference. Kuo expects Apple to adopt wireless charging aggressively following Jony Ive’s quotation of Apple “moving toward a truly wireless future” within the launch of Apple’s AirPods. – Alongside wireless charging and an all-glass design, Apple is speculated to add a major new ‘bezel-less’ design with an OLED display that wraps around the edges and sides of the phone, with a Touch ID Home Button integrated into the display itself.

Kuo reports production partner, Pegatron, shall be the main supplier of wireless charging components, with rival and other key supplier, Foxconn, managing production of the new OLED display.

Undoubtedly; the thought of users having to pay an additional cost for a wireless charging dock will cause an outcry; with Apple pushing more accessories and add-ons onto their products, as seen with USB-C on the new late-2016 MacBook Pro.
