Tim Cook says Apple will ‘announce new services this year’
Speaking as part of a televised interview today, Apple CEO Tim Cook has revealed that the company will ‘announce new services this year’ which have been in the pipeline for “multiple years.”
Within the interview – full transcript available here – Tim Cook and CNBC’s Mad Money, Jim Cramer discussed a range of different topics including China, Wall Street negativity and innovation.
Speaking with Cramer, Cook said how “There will more things coming,” and that Apple has been working on the forthcoming new services for “multiple years.”
On services, you will see us announce new services this year. There will more things coming. I don’t wanna tell you about what they are and I’m not gonna forecast precisely, the ramps and so forth. But they’re things that we feel really great about, that we’ve been working on for multiple years.
The interview also saw Cook discuss Apple’s growing interest in health care, saying that when people ask in the future what Apple’s “greatest contribution to mankind was,” it will be about the company’s health initiative.
During the health session of the discussion Cook said how the interest in healthcare grew more and more through Apple’s work on the Apple Watch and with things such as ResearchKit and CareKit that put medical records on the iPhone.
“On healthcare in particular and your wellbeing, this is an area that I believe, if you zoom out into the future, and you look back, and you ask the question, “What was Apple’s greatest contribution to mankind,” it will be about health.”
“Because our business has always been about enriching people’s lives. And as we’ve gotten into healthcare more and more through the Watch and through other things that we’ve created with ResearchKit and CareKit and putting your medical records on the iPhone, this is a huge deal.
And it’s something that is very important for people. We are democratizing it. We are taking what has been with the institution and empowering the individual to manage their health. And we’re just at the front end of this. But I do think, looking back, in the future, you will answer that question, Apple’s most important contribution to mankind has been in health.”
Apple is widely believed to be working on a Netflix-like streaming service that will launch later this year alongside a new subscription plan that will bundle Apple Music, iCloud storage, and other Apple monthly subscription services, including access to paid subscription-based content from publishers such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post within the News app on iOS and macOS.
