HomeKit update to introduce Night Shift for lights, changing color temperature based on time
iOS 14 will see Apple introduce a new Night Shift for smart lights feature, according to leaked information obtained by 9to5Mac.
According to the source, HomeKit-controlled smart lights may automatically change their color temperature based on the time of day, similar to how Night Shift on iPhone, iPad and Mac adjusts the colors of the display to warmer tones in the evening to help reduce strain on the eyes caused by background blue light.
Night Shift for lights would essentially mean users could see their living room lamp, for example, change its tone from bright in the morning to warm in the afternoon, continuing to warm and change its tone through to the evening.
While this can already be achieved by manually adjusting the temperature of lights around the home using HomeKit, Apple is yet to introduce an automatic system that will do this on behalf of the user.
