Niantic finally releases Pokémon Go for Apple Watch, includes Activity integration
While the highlight of Apple’s keynote back in September was most likely the iPhone 7’s debut, a special guest also demoed their popular app. Over the weekend rumors were stirring that the plans for Pokémon Go for Apple Watch were scrapped in favor of Niantic’s own wearable. The rumors obviously turned out to be false as it was released and available for download now.
While Pokémon Go for Apple Watch isn’t a standalone version of the app, it lets you receive notifications about nearby PokéStops as well as collect items from them. Of course because it’s not a full version of the app, you’ll need to pull out your iPhone to catch any Pokémon while playing the game.

Hatching eggs is easier now too as all the walking you do is applied towards the goal. In addition, because of the close Activity and Workout integration each play session can be logged as a workout and counted towards your Activity ring.
I myself don’t have much experience playing the game, but the companion watch app definitely sounds like a game changer! If you play the game and have tried out the Watch app, let us know how your experience went!
