New report from China claims production of the iPhone 7s and iPhone 8 is delayed
According to a report from the Chinese based Economic Daily News, via DigiTimes, production of the iPhone 7s and iPhone 8 is delayed, with some claiming that mainstream production of the iPhone 8 may not start until between November and December.
The report claims that Apple will be forced to ship the iPhone 8 in small quantities at start because yield rates at the main manufacturing plants have still not reached the mass production stage.
While at this point the official release date of Apple’s range of 2017 iPhones is unknown, it’s believed that the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus will be minor updates to Apple’s current iPhone 7 line, with the iPhone 8 receiving a major overhaul which will include wireless charging, the removal of Touch ID in favour of 3D facial scanning and a new OLED display.
While there were previous reports indicating that volume production for new iPhone devices has commenced, yield rates at the two main ODMs, Foxconn Electronics and Pegatron, have not yet reached levels that warrant mass production, the report said.
Last week we reported that Apple’s iPhone 8 models may feature a mirror-like backing similar to the 4th generation iPod touch. A report that started on Twitter following an earlier prediction by Ming-Chi Kuo who said Apple will launch the iPhone 8 in fewer colours than usual in an effort to maintain a “boutique” style of branding.
