Mujjo iPhone 7 Case Review
From the second I ordered my Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus, I knew I needed a case to protect the device from the dreaded fine “micro-abrasions” I had heard could plague the look and feel of the high-gloss finish of Apple’s latest flagship handset.
Personally, I’ve always admired the way tanned leather cases compliment the design of darker iPhone models. When the iPhone 6s first launched, I went into my local Apple Store to purchase one of their official Leather cases however to my disappointment, I was back in the store days later asking for a refund. I found that the buttons on the case, either they be for the volume controls or sleep wake button were unbearably stiff, and taking my phone in and out of the case was a process which had me struggling and biting my lip as the sound of the buttons crunching while I squeezed the tight case into place had me thinking, am I actually damaging my device rather than protecting it?
With the Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus, I really wanted to see the contrast of the glossy black finish alongside a beautiful tanned leather case however, with my previous experience in mind, I thought I’d look elsewhere for accessories and protection.
Mujjo has been kind enough to send The Apple Post a review unit of one of their latest releases, a Full Grain Leather case for the iPhone 7 Plus and to my excitement, the case is exactly what I had envisioned to work alongside the glossy, glasslike texture of the iPhone 7 Plus.
Arriving from The Netherlands in a small, stylish, cloth bag and packaged neatly within a black magnetically sealed retail box, without even touching the case I knew it would radiate luxury and quality from the outset. Sliding the case out of its quilted tray, I couldn’t help but run my fingers down the soft, premium quality vegetable-tanned leather which is wrapped around the case; leaving the volume controls and sleep wake button exposed, but not so much so that the device would attract scratches or scuffs.
The beauty of having exposed cut outs is that now, I can actually see and feel the Jet Black finish on my iPhone rather than having it fully hidden away.
Overtime, Mujjo boast how the Full Grain Leather Case acquires a “beautiful patina”; meaning that the colour you see today won’t necessarily be the colour you see tomorrow. In a nutshell, Patina is the colour shift which adds character to any leather product; it’s the vintage leather look we all crave and which truly personalises the product.
Unlike the leather case I purchased from Apple for my iPhone 6s, Mujjo’s case feels strong and sturdy. – To my delight, the case is extremely easy to install, mainly because the volume controls and sleep wake button are exposed. Protecting me from fine micro-abrasions, the interior of the case has been lined with a layer of suede, it’s something you won’t see everyday but is extremely comforting knowing it is there to protect the rear of the device.
Although in this article I’ve focused on the full leather case, Mujjo also offer a leather wallet variation for both iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users in two colour options, Black, Grey or Tan. The leather wallet cases use the same craftsmanship found on the full leather case, equipped with moulded edge technology to withstand daily ware and tear caused by friction inside pockets.
We’ve designed the iPhone 7 Plus case as simple as possible. In line with our vision, the leather case is contemporary and still remarkably simple. It doesn’t shout, ‘look at me,’ but rather calmly hints craftsmanship through its understated appearance, which is due in considerable part to the premium quality of our signature vegetable-tanned leather.
Mujjo cases are available across the globe, both in-store and online. The variation we were kind enough to receive is priced at €44.90 (£40*/$50).
