Reports claim the 2018 Apple Watch will debut with a new microLED display
According to a new report from Nikkei, Apple could introduce new microLED display technology with the 2018 Apple Watch, with the company currently in the stages of trial production.
The report that sights an executive with close knowledge of display technology notes that Apple is likely the only company currently able to rollout microLED technology, though it still comes with a very low yield rate and high-cost process.
“Apple is working very hard to foster the micro-LED technology… the company could push the use of new display tech as early as next year.” said an executive with close knowledge of display technology. – “At this point, Apple is the only company who is able to roll out micro-LED, a technology that is still at an early stage of development, and cover the high costs incurred by the low yield rate.”
This isn’t the first time we have seen reports about Apple moving the Apple Watch over to a microLED display. Last year it was reported by Digitimes that the 2017 Apple Watch model would adopt this new screen technology however that report appears to be no longer valid.
