Leaked ‘iPhone X Plus’ displays shown in new images
Leaked images supposedly from within an LG display production facility in Vietnam offer our first glimpse at Apple’s rumoured 6.5-inch ‘iPhone X Plus’ as Apple reportedly begins “production equipment trial runs” of the large screen iPhone X handset.
The images posted on MacX forums show multiple ‘iPhone X Plus’ displays that follow the design of the current iPhone, with a notch at the top of the display for Apple’s TrueDepth camera system used for Face ID biometrics and advanced photography features. – It appears that the notch may be slightly smaller than the one used on the current iPhone X, however it’s hard to tell.
Interestingly, at the bottom of the display are flex cable with a printed part number that matches with past formats used by Apple. There’s also a production week, the 46th week of 2017 which matches up to the middle of November, the same month the iPhone X went on sale.
A report by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is expected to discontinue the iPhone X later this year when the company introduces their 2018 iPhone line rather than following the tradition of continuing to sell older devices for a reduced price.
The decision to discontinue the iPhone X later this year has been decided because Apple doesn’t want a lower priced iPhone X to damage sales of the low-cost 6.1-inch LCD iPhone that is expected to be introduced later this year.
It appears Apple’s 2018 iPhone line-up will include a new iPhone X, iPhone X Plus and a low-cost 6.1-inch iPhone with LCD display featuring a metal back much like the iPhone 7 and the True Depth Camera System for Face ID from the iPhone X.
