iPhone XS users report poor Wi-Fi and cellular reception
Owners of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are taking to social media and Apple’s official support forums to report poor Wi-Fi and LTE performance on their new devices.
Compared to other, old devices iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max users are reporting seeing fewer bars and poorer signal when connected to Wi-Fi and using cellular LTE. At this stage, it’s unclear if the issue is hardware related, or possibly an iOS 12 bug which is preventing the handsets from properly establishing a strong network connection.
One user took to Apple’s Support Forum to compare the performance of his iPhone 7 Plus and 2017 iPad against the new iPhone XS.
In places where my iPhone 7 Plus and iPad (2017) are able to connect to the 5ghz network just fine, the XS has trouble. It only shows two bars and doesn’t maintain the connection that well. Really disappointing, for now I’ve switched to the 2.4ghz network on the XS. I hope Apple can fix this with a software update.
In theory, the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max should have much better connectivity than any other iPhone thanks to the device’s three new radio technologies: 4×4 MIMO, QAM, and LAA — which are supposed to offer faster and more reliable performance on Wi-Fi and cellular networks.
Should this be a software glitch then we imagine Apple will release a small bug fixing update over the coming days.
