iOS 11 could add redhead, afro, and bald emojis according to a submission to the Unicode Technical Committee
After meeting with Apple to discuss the possibility of adding a new male and female emoji with a pale skin tone and red hair option back in January, Emojipedia has reported that they have submitted new redhead, afro, and bald emojis to the Unicode Consortium, which if approved, could be included as part of the public release of iOS 11 towards the end of the year.
The new redhead, afro, and bald emojis (as seen below) have been submitted in multiple variations, with the ‘Person with Curly Hair’ used to represent either curly or afro hair and the ‘Person with White Hair’ used to represent an order adult.
Following the emojis submission, it’s now up to Apple to choose if they wish to integrate them into iOS. Emojipedia note that the mock-ups below are not final and will be subject to change.
Redheaded smartphone users have long awaited Apple adding an emoji to better represent their auburn locks, with a petition that already has over 20,260 supporters on Change.org campaigning for their ‘glorious gingerness’ to make it onto the screens of iOS users worldwide.
