Curved OLED displays are something Apple plans to keep exclusive to the premium, higher priced iPhone 8 model
Reports from Japan claim that Apple will keep the highly anticipated curved OLED display as a feature exclusively available on the premium, higher priced iPhone 8 handset, with sources claiming that Apple will use LCD panels similar to those Apple has been using for the iPhone since its introduction in 2007 for the more affordable 4.7- and 5.5-inch ‘iPhone 7s’ models.
Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 is building itself up to be one of the most anticipated iPhone releases of all time. The device is said to feature a glass body and edge-to-edge OLED display that includes an integrated Touch ID fingerprint sensor and front-facing camera.
On Saturday Timothy Phillips from The Apple Post reported that Apple will replace the current Touch ID setup for a new custom built fingerprint sensor for the iPhone 8. As the device is rumoured to have an edge-to-edge bezel-less display, it’s hinted that the handset will use a ‘built-in’ sensor integrated into the screen. – Apple will not be using Synaptic or Qualcomm technology this time around as they’re reportedly building their own custom variation. This new technology would likely be implemented into the “Function Area” mentioned in the past.
Over the past couple of months, reports have claimed that Apple’s upcoming 10th anniversary iPhone will cost consumers more than £1,000/$1,000, with high priced components being blamed for the increase.
