Apple’s cross-platform macOS & iOS app support to launch in 2019
According to blogger John Gruber, cross-platform macOS & iOS app support won’t be announced this year despite earlier reports by Bloomberg, with Gruber claiming Apple is gearing towards a 2019 launch for the software alongside an updated UI for iOS.
Bloomberg author Mark Gurman was first to report on Apple’s plans to allow developers to design and engineer a single application that runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac devices, claiming the project, internally called project “Marzipan”, is expected to be publicly announced during WWDC 2018, alongside the launch of iOS 12 and macOS 10.14.
Gruber reports that he’s “nearly certain” it’s a 2019 project for macOS 10.15 and iOS 13, citing “little birdies,” who have first and second-hand sources with knowledge of Apple’s plans.
I’m nearly certain this project is not debuting at WWDC 2018 in June, and I doubt that 2018 was on the table in December, Gruber writes. – It’s a 2019 thing, for MacOS 10.15 and iOS 13.1 I would set your expectations accordingly for this year’s WWDC.
Apple will be taking to the stage next month on Monday June 4th at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California to kick off its annual Worldwide Developers Conference. WWDC 2018 will unveil iOS 12 along with newer versions of watchOS, tvOS and macOS 10.14. It’s been previously reported iOS 12 will focus on stability, performance and reliability of the software instead of adding a large amount of new features.
