Apple unveils the Apple Watch Series 4 with larger display, and more
Apple has officially announced the Apple Watch Series 4, the next-generation Apple wearable that features a 30% larger screen, a thinner body and a reengineered Digital Crown with Haptic Feedback.
Chief Operating Officer, Jeff Williams took to the stage on Wednesday to unveil one of the biggest changes to Apple Watch since the launch of the device 3 years ago. The new Apple Watch Series 4 features a 64-bit dual-core processor, making this years Apple Watch up to 2x faster than the previous generation.
Apple Watch Series 4 includes new electrical sensors that allow you to take an electrocardiogram, making the wearable “the first ECG product offered over the counter directly to consumers.” – Apple has noted that this feature will be available exclusively in the United States at launch, with a global expansion planned.
With the forth generation Apple Watch, Apple has kept the same 18-hour battery life found on previous generations, introducing two new screen sizes: 40mm and 44mm – a step up from the 38mm and 42mm options available on previous Apple Watch releases.
Built into watchOS 5 on the Apple Watch Series 4, Apple is launching fall detection, a feature that detects when an Apple Watch wearer has fallen to the ground thanks to the new “next-generation” gyroscope and accelerometer sensors on the device. With this knowledge, Apple Watch Series 4 can call the emergency services and share location data when it detects the wearer hasn’t moved since falling.
Apple Watch Series 4 will be compatible with all Apple Watch bands, meaning if you purchased a band with your original Apple Watch, you’ll be able to hook it onto your new Series 4 without a problem! Talking of bands, Apple is introducing new Sport Band colors: Nectarine, Blue Horizon, and Lavender Gray, new Sport Loop colors: Cape Cod Blue, Nectarine, Hibiscus, Storm Gray, and Indigo, and new Peony Pink, Forest Green, Cape Cod, and Ruby (PRODUCT)Red options for the leather Modern Buckle.
Apple is also for the first time releasing a new Gold Milanese Loop. The all-new Apple Watch Series 4 models come in GPS and GPS + Cellular versions, with the aluminum case options in Silver, Space Gray, and Gold, and the stainless steel options in Silver, Space Black, and Gold.
Pricing for the new models starts at $399, with the cellular device starting at $499. Pre-orders begin on Friday (September 14), and deliveries begin the week after on Friday, September 21.
