Apple to remove headphone jack from new Face ID equipped iPad Pro models
Apart from the addition of Face ID, Apple will reportedly be making a handful of other key changes to their upcoming iPad Pro models, including the removal of the headphone jack and a relocated Smart Connector according to Japanese site MacOtakara.
According to sources from within Apple’s supply chain, the new 10.5-inch iPad Pro will measure in at 247.5mm tall, 178.7mm wide, and 6mm, compared to the current size of 250.6mm x 174.1mm x 6.1mm. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro is said to measure 280mm tall, 215mm wide, and 6.4mm thick, compared to the current measurements of 305.7mm x 220.6mm x 6.9mm.
The dimensions show Apple is looking to slim down the bezels on the new iPad Pro models to match the iPhone X, as seen within concepts by Álvaro Pabesio.
While the headphone jack was removed from the iPhone 7 in 2016, this would be the first iPad model to see the 3.5mm jack be removed. – Within the report, MacOtakara also notes Apple will move the Smart Connector from the side of the iPad to the bottom edge so users can type while their device is in portrait mode.
