Apple brings back Steve Jobs ‘post-pc’ concept in new video
Apple has posted a new video to their YouTube channel featuring the company’s new iPad Pro. Within the video a younger girl appears on the go in many places throughout the city and showcases the power of the flagship tablet.
As she’s shown drawing, typing, photographing, and reading we get to the end of the video where presumably a neighbor asks her what she’s doing on her computer. The response she gives of “What’s a computer?” takes us back to Steve Jobs’ “post-pc” era days. Apple does truly believe that the iPad Pro can replace your computer and for the most part it can. There’s probably only a handful of tasks that can’t be performed on an iPad, but for the most part the everyday user won’t have the need for those tasks.
Steve Jobs said back in a 2010 interview that “When we were an agrarian nation, all cars were trucks. But as people moved more towards urban centers, people started to get into cars. I think PCs are going to be like trucks. Less people will need them. And this transformation is going to make some people uneasy… because the PC has taken us a long way. They were amazing. But it changes. Vested interests are going to change. And, I think we’ve embarked on that change. Is it the iPad? Who knows? Will it be next year or five years? … We like to talk about the post-PC era, but when it really starts to happen, it’s uncomfortable.”
