Apple releases iOS 11.2.5 with fix for “chaiOS” crashing bug and new HomePod controls
Apple has publicly released iOS 11.2.5 to compatible iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices, bringing a fix for the “chaiOS” crashing bug and new HomePod controls ahead of the devices imminent launch.
The company reported last week that a bug fixing update would drop to fix the “chaiOS” iMessage bug which causes the Messages app to break and freeze on iPhone, iPad and Mac devices that receive a malicious link.
On Sunday it was revealed that beta builds of iOS 11.2.5 had hidden clues as to previously unknown HomePod functionality, including the ability to provide personalised feedback based on multiple user voices and new custom scenes that mute the HomePod speaker’s “Hey Siri” function.

Don’t panic if you can’t see iOS 11.2.5 showing on your compatible iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, due to the high volumes of users trying to download the software, things might be a little slower than usual. If you’re near your computer, you can simply connect your device to iTunes and download via the iTunes desktop app however, if you’re going wire-free, simply follow the instructions below…
- Open Settings and click General.
- Tap “Software Update” and wait for iOS 11.2.5 to show.
- Once iOS 11.2.5 is shown as an available update, tap “Download and Install” and follow the on-screen instructions.
