Apple preparing to launch new ‘inexpensive’ MacBooks according to reports
Apple supplier Quanta is expected to see a surge in orders thanks to “new inexpensive” MacBook models expected to launch later in the year according to Taiwanese site DigiTimes who on Monday fuelled earlier reports that an ‘entry-level’ 13-inch MacBook was on the horizon.
While the report didn’t reveal any new information about the rumored machine, it is believed the new notebook would have a lower price than the current MacBook Air, which starts at $999, and have a Retina display.
It’s unclear if the introduction of the notebook will see the end of Apple’s ageing low-cost MacBook Air line, with Apple including it as part of their newer MacBook product category. Apple could announce the new hardware at its usual September press event alongside the launch of new iPhone models, or possibly later in the year at a dedicated event in October.
DigiTimes reports Quanta’s shipments are expected to also rise above 10 million units in the fourth quarter of the year thanks to the introduction of the “new inexpensive” product.
Despite a cut in orders from Dell, Compal will see a dramatic ramp-up in orders from HP in the third quarter, the research report discloses. – But Quanta’s shipments are expected to also rise above 10 million units in the fourth quarter thanks to orders for Apple’s new inexpensive notebooks.
