Apple launches repair program for faulty MacBook and MacBook Pro keyboards
Apple has launched a new repair program for owners of faulty MacBook and MacBook Pro models that experience letters or characters repeat unexpectedly, that see letters or characters not appearing, or key(s) that feel “sticky” or do not respond in a consistent manner due to its defective butterfly keyboard design.
With the butterfly keyboard Apple claims to have redesigned the keyboard from the ground up. The new keyboard debuted with the 12-inch MacBook in 2015, with a second-generation version arriving in the MacBook Pro line the following year.
In short, Apple’s butterfly mechanism is 40% thinner than a scissor keyboard, there’s a stainless steel dome under each key that Apple says will make typing feel “crisp and responsive”. A new LED light behind each individual key on the butterfly keyboard means when you backlight the keyboard, its brightness will look even all over.
The new repair program is available for the MacBook and MacBook Pro models listed below. Apple notes that if you already paid for your keyboard to get repaired due to the faults listed above you will be entitled to a refund against the cost of your original repair.
