Reports claim Apple will perform a global retail store ‘refresh’ next week, bringing their ‘next-generation’ store design to all locations
According to 9to5Mac who cite their own sources, Apple will perform a retail store ‘refresh’ next week, bringing their ‘next-generation’ Jony Ive designed store layout to all locations, including older and smaller stores worldwide. The global store update, scheduled for next Tuesday (16th May 2017), will see contractors work overnight to overhaul the appearance of the stores to mirror the design aesthetic of their new, larger locations as seen within their recently opened Dubai Mall store.
As the update will be effecting Apple’s existing locations, each store will receive a different level of makeover dependant on size and available space, with sources calling the update a halfway house’ between the original and new looks. While no specifics were shared within 9to5Mac’s report, it’s expected Apple Stores will gain most of the new features found within the company’s next-generation locations, including bright light boxes which extend the length of the ceiling, sequoia wood tables and shelves along the walls and new seating for personal set-up and Genius Bar customers.
Apple’s ‘next-generation’ store design was first shown off at the unveiling of their new store in Brussels, Belgium in 2015. Throughout Apple’s new stores, natural materials like granite and wood have greater prominence with the company maximising floorspace with new tables to achieve a sense of openness.
If all goes ahead and the report proves to be legitimate, on the morning of Wednesday 17th May The Apple Post will share the latest information and images following the global retail store ‘refresh’.
