Analysts predict demand for iPhone X could top 50 million units, with supply delays through to Spring 2018
According to KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo, dubbed the “best Apple analyst on the planet” by some, demand for Apple’s upcoming iPhone X could reach 40-50 million units, predicting consumers could see supply delays disrupting shipments from launch through to Spring 2018.
Ming-Chi Kuo reports that customers can expect a similar launch experience to the iPhone 7 Plus, with some orders not shipping until 1 to 2 months after they were placed. It appears that the reason for the limited production yields is the complexity of the TrueDepth camera system. It combines several more sensors than rival phones, which makes it harder to reach mass production. – The report claims Apple is aiming to have iPhone X production in full swing by October.
iPhone X
The iPhone X, pronounced “iPhone Ten”, features a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED edge-to-edge display with 2436 x 1125 resolution and 458ppi, HDR support, Dolby Vision, HDR10, and True Tone. The Home Button has been removed from the iPhone X, with Apple adding a new Tap to Wake feature which works alongside Raise to Wake.
iPhone X features the new A11 Bionic chip with a special neural engine that helps power Face ID which unlocks the device by taking a 3D scan of the users face. Apple says Face ID can’t be spoofed by photographs, masks, and makeup, and changing your actual appearance with a hat or beard or makeup won’t prevent Face ID from working.
The new iPhone X will be available in 64GB and 256GB storage capacities, priced from $999 upwards. The iPhone X will be available to pre-order on October 27th, with the device arriving in-store and to the first wave of pre-order customers on November 3rd.
