The 3.5mm headphone jack isn’t the only iconic element to disappear from Apple’s new line up of smartphones; so is the clickable home button, being replaced in favour of a new, Taptic Engine based button which comprises of no moving parts. Although the button feels genuine to touch, the device simulates the feel of a click when the user presses down on the sensors behind the glass home button, using the Taptic Engine to vibrate the phone the same way a standard click would sound and feel.
To help customers adjust the intensity of the simulated clicks, Apple has introduced a ‘Choose Your Click’ option within settings on both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The settings allow you to try different intensity levels; making the devices more personalised and responsive for those who wish to softly press their home button or prefer to press more forcefully.
When you first unbox your new iPhone you’re asked to choose your intensity however, if you’re like me you’ll want to try all three to see which one is more well suited to you. Below are the quick and easy steps to adjusting the “clicks” on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
1) Go to Settings → General → Home Button on your iPhone.
2) You’ll see the same “Choose Your Click” assistant like in the iOS setup assistant. Again, you get to choose between three degrees of intensity for the Home button— Light (1), Medium (2) and Heavy (3).
After selecting your desired click intensity, “press” the Home button to feel it immediately without needing to close out Settings.
3) Tap Done to save the changes.
