32GB of RAM not an option for new MacBook Pro due to battery concerns
While Apple did make hardware upgrades such as a more energy efficient Skylake processor, faster SSDs, better GPUs, and new thermal architecture, there was one option that many “Pro” users would have liked to have seen. That would be the option to include 32GB of RAM. Many have had the same question and an email from Phil Schiller has given us our answer.
Schiller’s answer: Thank you for the email. It is a good question. To put more than 16GB of fast RAM into a notebook design at this time would require a memory system that consumes much more power and wouldn’t be efficient enough for a notebook. I hope you check out this new generation MacBook Pro, it really is an incredible system.
The average everyday users wouldn’t even come close using the full potential of 32GB of RAM. They probably wouldn’t even come close to 16GB, but the point was that for a “Pro” computer it doesn’t come with full “Pro” options. The only computer in Apple’s line-up that has the option to run 32GB of RAM is the high-end version of the 27-inch iMac.
Apple did choose to limit that, but possibly for a good cause. The new MacBook Pro is able to reach “all-day battery life.” This amounts to 10 hours of wireless web use or iTunes movie playback. In comparison, that’s an hour improvement over the previous 15-inch model, but a a small step backfor the 13-inch machine.
